Fort Charles & Giddy House
Two Port Royal landmarks side by side at the end of the Palisadoes. Fort Charles is a 17th-century British fort, and the 1888 Giddy House, an old artillery store, tilted into the ground in the 1907 earthquake, so standing inside feels off balance.
Getting there
Easy by road from Kingston, then walkable once you are in Port Royal. The pin is at Giddy House and the fort is close by. The Old Naval Hospital, now a museum and conservation building run by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, is also in Port Royal near the fort; some visitors report it can only be viewed from the gates. Check current hours and entry fees with the Jamaica National Heritage Trust before you go.
