St. Catherine day: a river swim and a beach lunch

An easy day from Kingston that starts at a river and ends at the beach near Portmore. Go on a weekday if you can, since both spots get busy on weekends and holidays. Rio Village in Bog Walk and Cudjoe Falls are farther north, so plan those as a separate trip.

   Go early, as one visitor found it calm at 8:30am and a party crowd by 10am. Deeper areas are for strong swimmers, and children need close supervision.

   A busy local beach with fish restaurants and stalls. Check prices before ordering seafood sold by weight, and keep valuables with you.
